  • America has a high standard of living and this is shown in the movie with Jessica and April’s big houses and their expensive cars.
Relative Poverty-the lack of resources of some people in relation to those who have more.
  • Clive in the movie experiences relative poverty because in relation to most of the United States, he has less.

Multinational Coorporation- A large business that operates in many countries.
  • In the movie, Jessica drives a Volkswagen. Volkswagon started in Germany but is now a multinational corporation.
Global Stratification- patterns of social inequality in the world as a whole
  • Keecia's parents are from Africa and Korea. If she were to have lived in those countries her life would have been a lot different because the global stratification in the world separates the quality of life in different countries.


  • The American society is considered to be a lot more modern than many other nations. Jessica having a car which is paid for by her parents shows how modern we are because in some nations many of the adults are too poor to afford a car.
Absolute Poverty- Poverty that is life threatening in some manner.
  • Keecia is of North Korean decent, North Korea is a country that has absolute poverty because they do not have enough food to feed their population.
Low-Income-Country- Nations with a low standard of living in which most people are poor.

Chattel Slavery- Slavery in which one person owns another.
  • In the flash back to the ancient Egyptian civilization the princess has many slaves and switches roles with one of them.
